Evidence-Based Strategy
How to Prepare for NEET 2026
Month-wise study plans for 12, 6 and 3 months โ plus a daily schedule template and top strategy tips from NEET toppers and educators.
12-Month Plan
RecommendedStarting fresh โ optimal timeline
Months 1โ3: Foundation
Complete Class 11 Biology (both books). Simultaneously start Class 11 Physics chapters โ focus on Mechanics. Cover Class 11 Physical Chemistry. Do NCERT line-by-line for Biology.
Months 4โ6: Build-Up
Complete Class 12 Biology. Finish Class 11 Physics (Thermodynamics, Waves). Start Inorganic + Organic Chemistry basics. Begin topic-wise MCQs after each chapter.
Months 7โ8: Class 12 All Subjects
Cover Class 12 Physics (all chapters). Complete Organic Chemistry. Finish Inorganic Chemistry (p, d, f block). Solve 50 MCQs per day subject-wise.
Months 9โ10: PYQ Practice
Solve 10 years of NEET PYQs โ topic by topic. Identify weak chapters. Revise NCERT Biology 3 times. Start full mock tests (1 per week).
Months 11โ12: Revision + Mocks
Full NEET mocks every 3โ4 days. Analyse performance and patch weak areas. Short notes revision daily. Focus: Biology accuracy โ 80%+, Chemistry โ 75%+.
6-Month Plan
FeasibleDropped a year / starting in Jan
Month 1: Biology Blitz
Complete all NEET Biology (Class 11 + 12) in 30 days โ 2 hours/day minimum. Read NCERT once, mark diagrams, do 20 MCQs per chapter. Skip nothing.
Month 2: Chemistry
Cover Physical + Inorganic Chemistry. Focus on Chemical Bonding, p-Block, Coordination Compounds. Organic = GOC + Aldehydes/Ketones/Amines only this month.
Month 3: Physics
Rotational Motion, Thermodynamics, Current Electricity, Optics, Modern Physics โ these 5 areas cover 60%+ of Physics. Do NCERT examples + numerical banks.
Month 4: PYQ Drilling
10-year NEET PYQ chapter-wise across all subjects. Track accuracy per chapter. Patch chapters below 60% accuracy immediately.
Month 5: Mocks + Weak Areas
2 full NEET mocks per week (180Q, timed). Review every wrong answer. Re-read relevant NCERT pages. Maintain short revision notes for Biology.
Month 6: Final Revision
No new topics. Daily: 1 Biology chapter revision + 20 Chemistry MCQs + 10 Physics numericals. Mock every 5 days. Sleep 7โ8 hrs โ non-negotiable.
3-Month Plan
IntensiveLast push / re-attempt
Week 1โ2: Rapid Biology Revision
Biology only. Re-read NCERT, solve 30 MCQs/chapter. Mark and revise incorrect ones same day. Prioritise: Genetics, Animal Kingdom, Human Physiology.
Week 3โ4: Chemistry High-Weightage
Chemical Bonding, p-Block, Coordination Compounds, GOC, Organic reactions. Solve PYQs for each chapter immediately after revision.
Week 5โ6: Physics High-Weightage
Rotational Motion, Thermodynamics, Current Electricity, Semiconductor Electronics. 10 numericals per day. Formulae revision sheet โ pin it up.
Week 7โ8: Full PYQ Sweep
2015โ2025 NEET papers under exam conditions. All subjects. Track time per section. Identify recurring question types โ memorise the pattern.
Week 9โ12: Mocks + Polish
Mock every 2 days. Score Biology consistently above 280/360 before you touch Physics improvements. Daily flashcard revision: Biology diagrams, Chemistry named reactions.
Ideal Daily Schedule โ 8โ9 Study Hours
Adjust timings to suit your sleep schedule โ consistency matters more than the exact times.
Top Strategy Tips from NEET Toppers
NCERT is the Bible
90%+ of NEET Biology questions are directly from NCERT text โ sometimes word-for-word. Read it 3 times minimum, not just for points but full sentences.
PYQs Before Anything Else
Before starting a new chapter, check 2โ3 PYQ questions from it. This sets context for what NEET actually asks โ you'll read the chapter differently.
Biology = Rank
With 360 marks, a 90% accuracy in Biology adds ~324 marks. Topping Biology alone can compensate for average Physics scores.
Mock Timing Matters
Attempt mocks in the actual NEET time slot (2 PM, as of recent years). Your brain adapts to being alert at specific times.
Spaced Repetition
Revise a chapter at 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, and 21 days after first reading. This cements memory without marathon re-reading sessions.
Don't Skip Analysis
After every mock, spend equal time analysing wrong answers as you did attempting the test. Understanding WHY you were wrong is the entire point.
